Davao del Sur governor dies due to COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 10) — Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas died from COVID-19 complications on Thursday, his family confirmed in a message posted on the local government's Facebook page.

"It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Governor Douglas "Dodo" Cagas this morning, owing to COVID complications," the announcement read.

Netizens have posted their condolences on the page, along with message of thanks for Cagas' service.

Cagas began his career in politics in the 80s and became governor of the province in 2007, serving until 2013. He again served as governor from 2016 until 2019, and from 2019 up to the present.

Cagas is survived by his wife, Davao del Sur Lone District Representative Mercedes Cagas, and his son, Davao del Sur Vice Governor Marc Douglas Cagas IV.
