Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 23) — Iloilo City will be under modified enhanced community quarantine until the end of the month, said the Inter-Agency Task Force in charge of managing the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Upon the appeal of the local government unit, the risk-level classification of Ilo-ilo City shall be escalated to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine beginning May 23, 2021, until May 31, 2021," said the IATF in Resolution No. 116-C dated May 22.

The decision was made due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the city.

The resolution added Apayao, Benguet, and Cagayan will retain their MECQ status until the end of the month.

To date, the Department of Health said there is a total of 1,178,217 cases in the country, with 54,326 active cases.

The country also recorded its highest daily vaccination rate last May 20, almost three months after it started its COVID-19 immunization drive.
