3 dead as string of violence continues in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 25) — A string of violence continues to rock Negros Oriental after three public officials were shot dead inside their homes in Guihulngan City early Thursday.

Arthur Cordevilla Bayawa, 55, principal of Guihulngan Science High school, and his sister Ardale Cordevilla Bayawa, 49, Curriculum Implementation Division chief of the Department of Education-Guihulngan City Division, were repeatedly shot by unidentified gunmen inside their home in Barangay Hibaiyo at around 12:55 am.

The two were rushed to the nearest hospital, but were declared dead on arrival.

Less than an hour after, Barangay Buenavista chairman Romeo Arbole Alipan, 64, was shot several times by unidentified armed men inside his home.

Just last Tuesday, a lawyer who is tagged as a supporter of communist rebels was killed by men onboard a motorcyle in the city.

Reports said Anthony Trinidad, 53, was shot dead by unidentified armed men while he was driving his car.
