Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 25) — The country’s Food and Drug Administration approves the emergency use of Molnaflu, another brand of COVID-19 drug molnupiravir.

Mayroon pa tayong naaprubahan na isa pa na [brand] ang tawag naman ay Molnaflu naman po. So bale dalawa na po 'yung nabigyan natin ng EUA,” FDA officer-in-charge Dr. Oscar Gutierrez said during President Rodrigo Duterte’s weekly address aired Monday night.

[Translation: We approved another brand called Molnaflu. So now we have granted emergency use authorization for two brands.]

Molnarz is the first molnupiravir brand approved for emergency use in the country. This is being administered to COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms.

Gutierrez said the FDA also approved the applications to extend the shelf life of Molnarz and Molnaflu from six months to 12 months.

Ito po ay isang magandang balita kasi meaning iyong gamot na 'yun ay patuloy po ang importation at magiging available po sa ating mamamayan,” he added. “Kung ano po ‘yung mga stocks available sa Philippines... hindi po siya masasayang.”

[Translation: This is good news because this means the importation of the drug will continue and it will be available for the people. The stocks available in the Philippines will not be wasted.]

The decision was based on the manufacturers’ continuous stability data and accelerated stability data, Gutierrez noted.
