Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 14) — The Senate has unanimously approved on third and final reading the bill seeking to rename Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City after the late king of Philippine movies, Fernando Poe Jr.

The lawmakers on Monday voted 22-0-1, with Poe's daughter, Senator Grace Poe, abstaining from the vote due to conflict of interest.

"In my heart I am so happy that this has passed, so thank you very much," Poe said after the chamber approved the measure.

House Bill No. 7499 initially sought to rename Del Monte Avenue, which is also located in Quezon City's first legislative district after the late actor, but Senate President Tito Sotto introduced an amendment to Section 1 of the proposed measure renaming Roosevelt Avenue instead.

The multi-awarded film legend, who passed away in December 2004 at the age of 65, was declared a National Artist posthumously in 2006. He was married to movie queen Susan Roces.

More popularly known as FPJ and "Da King", he starred in and produced more than a hundred blockbuster and critically acclaimed films including "Ang Panday," "Agila," "Ang Probinsyano," "Isang Bala Ka Lang," "Ang Maestro," "Sigaw ng Katarungan," and "Kapag Puno Na Ang Salop."
