Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 11) — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte joined national party Lakas-CMD on Thursday, days after she pulled out her candidacy for reelection early this week.

Duterte took her oath as party member at the farm of Senator Ramon Revilla, Jr., said Lakas-CMD president and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez. Duterte was one of the principal sponsors in the wedding of Revilla's daughter.

Earlier in the day, Duterte resigned from her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago, where she was the founder and chairperson.

"We had long been inviting Mayor Inday to join our party as we are all impressed with her sterling qualities as a leader and we saw up close here exemplary work ethic as chief executive of Davao City," said Romualdez in a statement.

Romualdez did not comment on which position the mayor will run for in the 2022 elections.

Some of her allies have said the presidential daughter could possibly run for a national post ahead of the November 15 political substitution deadline.

Lakas-CMD, the party of former presidents Fidel Ramos and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, fielded a certain Anna Velasco as presidential bet and Lyle Uy for vice president. But the party's secretary general and Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay earlier said they are open to have Duterte as substitute standard bearer.

The Commission on Elections earlier said that Duterte could only qualify as a substitute candidate for whoever filed for a national post, if she joins a national political party.
