Zamora orders suspension of pay parking in all San Juan streets
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 1) — San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora ordered the suspension of pay parking in all the city’s streets beginning August 5. This comes after the Metro Manila Council convened on July 25 to address the traffic problems in the capital region.
Earlier, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued a directive enjoining governors, mayors and other local officials to reclaim public roads used for private purposes.
Mayor Zamora signed on Wednesday Executive Order FMZ-007 which declares both sides of the following streets as a “NO PARKING ZONE:”
Annapolis Street
Eisenhower Street
Club Filipino Avenue
Connecticut Street
Missouri Street
Xavier Street
Grant Street
Washington Street
Madison Street
Pinaglabanan Street (Filoil Flying V Centre)
Santolan Road (Filoil Flying V Centre)
All other streets in the City of San Juan used as pay parking
Those who will be caught parking on these zones will be apprehended, will receive traffic citation tickets and will have their vehicles towed or removed.
The DILG gave Metro Manila mayors until September to clear all roads of illegal parking and ambulant vendors. This is in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to reclaim public spaces and ease traffic congestion.
On Monday, Zamora, along with officials from the Philippine National Police, led the demolition of a police station that was blocking a sidewalk in Barangay West Crame.
On July 25, the mayor prohibited parking at certain hours along four busy streets in Barangay Greenhills. He revealed that the previous administration, which was led by Janella Estrada, used a portion of the streets as pay parking areas, causing heavy traffic.
Meanwhile, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso ordered clearing operations along the city’s busy streets, namely, Divisoria, Blumentritt and Carriedo. Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto also began clearing roads with the Metro Manila Development Authority on Thursday
