Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 3) — President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the bill that institutionalizes the Malasakit Center.

The law would not only require public hospitals to have Malasakit Centers — a one-stop shop for government medical and financial assistance — it would also create a Malasakit Program to facilitate it.

Duterte signed the law on Tuesday.

Malasakit Centers would also provide patients with referrals in accessing hospital services, health insurance, coverage and benefit packages.

Malasakit Centers are pet projects of Senator Bong Go, who has been accused of using these facilities to bolster his public image for the 2019 senatorial elections. Go, however, insisted the centers help poor patients.
