Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 26) — Filipino-American actress Ivory Aquino will play transgender woman Alysia Yeoh in the HBOMax film "Batgirl."

Deadline's exclusive report said the superhero movie will focus on Barbara "Batgirl" Gordon, played by Leslie Grace. Aquino will star as Barbara's best friend, the first major transgender character ever to appear in a live-action film adaptation of DC comics title.

The actress is also working alongside J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton, and Jacob Scipio for the "Batgirl" flick.

Aquino previously starred in "Tales in the City," "When They See Us," and Isabel Sandoval's film "Lingua Franca."

The Filipino-American actress publicly came out as a transgender woman in 2017 after she landed a role on ABC’s “When We Rise,” a miniseries that retraces the gay rights movement in America.
