Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 17) - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday announced it will expand the period covered by special permits to selected public utility vehicles (PUVs) this Holy Week.

Instead of just having special permits from April 2 to April 11, some PUVs will be granted special permits from March 31 to April 17.

According to the LTFRB, PUVs with special permits may go on "trips outside of the authorized route for purposes of excursions, educational trips, outings, retreat, or the like."

"With the five-day break, it will give more Filipinos the chance to spend more time with their families in the provinces and for spiritual reflection during the Holy Week," LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III said in a statement.

Under Proclamation No. 90, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared April 6 (Maundy Thursday) and April 7 (Good Friday) as regular holidays.

The Araw ng Kagitingan, which was usually observed on April 9 (Sunday), was also moved to April 10 (Monday).

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office said Friday a total of 4,690 police officers are ready to be deployed for enhanced public safety measures and traffic management control during the Holy Week.
