Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 10) — The tollway companies operating the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the ManilaCavite Expressway (Cavitex) on Tuesday announced toll rates increase beginning May 12.

NLEX Corporation said motorists traveling anywhere within the open system will pay an additional ₱2 for Class 1 vehicles (regular cars and SUVs), ₱6 for Class 2 (buses and small trucks), and ₱8 for Class 3 (large trucks).

For the closed system, it noted there will be an increase of ₱0.34 per kilometer.

The open system is from Balintawak, Caloocan City to Marilao, Bulacan, while the closed system covers the portion between Bocaue, Bulacan and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, including Subic-Tipo.

NLEX Corporation also reminded that those using the highway end-to-end between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City will pay an additional ₱27 for Class 1 vehicles, ₱69 for Class 2, and ₱82 for Class 3.

It explained the increases are part of the approved periodic adjustments of NLEX due in 2016, and of the completion of the new Subic Freeport Expressway in 2021.

On the other hand, it also announced it will provide a toll rate reprieve to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

"To help cushion the impact of the toll increase, public utility jeepneys under the NLEX Passada and Tsuper Card discount and rebate program will continue to enjoy the old rates. Provincial buses will also be covered by a graduated rebate scheme for a period of three months," the firm said.

Meanwhile, the Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) is likewise set to impose higher toll rates in the Cavitex Parañaque toll plaza.

"This comes after the approval of the Toll Regulatory Board of the 2011 and 2014 contractual tariff adjustments toll petitions of CIC and PRA (Philippine Reclamation Authority), as well as its add-on toll petition for Phases 1 and 2 enhancement works done in CAVITEX R-1 Expressway that was completed in 2020," the CIC explained.

The company said there will be a toll hike of ₱4.62 per kilometer for Class 1 vehicles, ₱9.24 for Class 2, and ₱13.86 for Class 3 traversing the R-1 Expressway (or from Cavitex Longos, Bacoor entry to MIA exit, and vice versa). It noted the rates are exclusive of value-added tax.

Based on this new matrix, motorists shall be paying a toll fee of ₱33 for Class 1 vehicles (from the current ₱25); ₱67 for Class 2 (from ₱50); and ₱100 for Class 3 (from ₱75).

Both NLEX Corporation and CIC are part of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation.

Similar to NLEX, the Cavitex operator will provide PUV drivers and operators a temporary retrieve through a rebate program which will allow them to continue enjoying the old rates for the next three months.
