Travel time between the MRT and BGC will only take five minutes once the two-kilometer Skytrain monorail is completed in 2021.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 29) — Commuters will soon have a direct ride from the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) on EDSA to the neighboring business district Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, in a media briefing Tuesday, announced that the Department of Transportation approved a proposal to build the two-kilometer Skytrain monorail, which will connect MRT Guadalupe Station and Fort Bonifacio.

"The construction is expected to start later this year. The project will benefit around 60,000 to 100,000 passengers daily when completed in 2021," Roque said.

The proposal will be submitted to the Cabinet-level Investment Coordination Committee of the National Economic Development Authority.

"Truly, it is Build, Build, Build under the Duterte administration," Roque said.

Alliance Global Group, Inc., the holding company of tycoon Andrew Tan, submitted the project proposal in October. Travel time between Guadalupe and BGC is projected to take only five minutes on the Skytrain.

Jeepneys currently serve commuters in the almost five-kilometer route.
