Chess bags 3 more golds for PH at 2023 ASEAN Para Games
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 4) — Filipino chess players are on a roll in the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia, winning three gold medals in a row to bring the country’s total to eight.
Darry Bernardo conquered the para chess men's rapid VI-B2/B3 event, taking home the Philippines’ 6th gold medal.
Bernardo, along with Menandro Redor and Israel Peligro, also emerged victorious in the team rapid VI-B2/B3 event.
Meanwhile, Cheyzer Mendoza topped the women's individual rapid chess PI.
The team of Evangeline Gamao, Katrina Mangawang, and Elena Peligro took the bronze in the women’s rapid team B1 event, while the trio of Cecilio Bilog, Francis Ching, and Rudy Sarmiento also clinched bronze in the men’s version of the same event.
As of writing, Team Philippines has won eight gold, seven silver, and 10 bronze medals overall.
