(CNN Philippines, May 9) — The 32nd Southeast Asian Games journey of the Filipinas comes to a bittersweet end.

The Filipinas defeated reigning champion Vietnam, 2-1, Tuesday at the Smart RSN Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Sarina Bolden and Hali Long scored the goals at the 12th (penalty) and 83rd minute, respectively, but the Filipinas still fell short of a semifinals spot due to an inferior goal difference after Myanmar dismantled Malaysia, 5-1, in the other Group A match.

Despite the loss, Vietnam will join Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia in the semis.
