Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 3) — The Philippine men's 5x5 basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the 19th Asian Games after outlasting Iran, 84-83, Tuesday at the Zhejiang University's Zijingang Gymnasium in China.

Justin Brownlee exploded for 36 points on 57 percent shooting and eight rebounds for Gilas Pilipinas.

The Philippines blew a 21-point lead but Brownlee saved the day as he knocked down a crucial shot at the waning seconds to secure the victory for Gilas.

The Philippines last appeared in the Asian Games semis in 2002 in South Korea.

Fajardo finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Scottie Thompson added 11 points and six rebounds for Gilas.

Mohammadsina Vahedi dropped 24 points for Iran.

The Philippines will battle China in the semis on Oct. 4 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.
