UAAP champs NU Lady Bulldogs headline PH team in AVC Cup for Women

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 6) — Twelve players from the National University Lady Bulldogs — the reigning UAAP women's volleyball champion — will headline the national team for the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women, the Philippine National Volleyball Federation announced on Saturday.

The Philippine squad will be composed of Lady Bulldogs Ivy Lacsina, Mhicaela Belen, Shaira Jardio, Evangeline Alinsug, Cess Robles, Sheena Toring, Jen Nierva, Nicole Mata, Alyssa Solomon, Camilla Lamina, Kamille Cal and Joyme Cagande.

Completing the roster are Jelai Gajero of California Precision Sports and former Adamson University Lady Falcon Trisha Genesis.

Olympic champion Jorge Edson Souza de Brito of Brazil will call the shots for the young team. He will be assisted by NU Lady Bulldogs head coach Karl Dimaculangan and former national team player Cherry Macatangay.

The Premier Volleyball League announced earlier in the day that the AVC-enroute team will replace Japan's Kobe Shinwa Women's University as guest team in the Invitational Conference.

The Philippines is the host country for the AVC Cup for Women which will start on August 21. The national team is bracketed in Pool A with defending champion China, South Korea, Iran, and Vietnam.
