Clarkson, Sotto, Thompson, Fajardo banner Gilas pool for FIBA Asian qualifiers

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 17) – The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has revealed that overseas stars Jordan Clarkson and Kai Sotto and MVPs Scottie Thompson and June Mar Fajardo are among the 24-man Gilas Pilipinas preliminary pool for the fourth window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

International players Kiefer Ravena of Shiga Lakes, Thirdy Ravena of San-En NeoPhoenix, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. of Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, and Dwight Ramos of Levanga Hokkaido are also included in the pool.

Ballers from the Philippine Basketball Association to join six-time league MVP Fajardo of San Miguel and reigning MVP Thompson of Barangay Ginebra are Meralco’s Chris Newsome, Allein Maliksi, and Raymond Almazan; Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon and Ian Sangalang; NLEX’s Kevin Alas and Calvin Oftana; Northport’s Robert Bolick and Jamie Malonzo; and Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar and Arvin Tolentino.

The SBP also listed free agent Roosevelt Adams.

Young guns included in the pool are UAAP players Carl Tamayo of the University of the Philippines and Kevin Quiambao of De La Salle University and free agent Francis Lopez.

Players from the winning team of Wednesday's do-or-die PBA semis match between San Miguel and Meralco would be removed from the pool, according to the SBP.

Gilas will face Lebanon in Beirut on August 25 and Saudi Arabia at the Mall of Asia Arena on August 29.
