Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 16) — Two months before a new UAAP season begins, the University of the Philippines women’s volleyball team has welcomed bemedaled tactician Shaq Delos Santos as their new head coach.

The team confirmed Delos Santos’ new position on Monday.

“The UP Women’s Volleyball Team would like to welcome Coach Shaq Delos Santos as our new head coach,” the team said in a Facebook post. “We believe in you Coach and can’t wait to see what you have in store for the team!”

Delos Santos will try to end the Lady Maroon’s UAAP Final Four drought since season 78.

Delos Santos led the University of Santo Tomas women’s volleyball team from 2008 to 2011, steering the Tigresses to a UAAP championship in season 72 in 2009. He then coached the Lady Tamaraws of Far Eastern University, his alma mater, in three Final Four appearances from 2014 to 2017.

After his stint as a UAAP coach, Delos Santos took the reins for the Philippine women’s national team in 2018. He also focused on the club volleyball league, claiming four Philippine Superliga titles from 2017 to 2019 for the defunct Petron team.

Just before the Maroons tapped Delos Santos, he guided the Cignal HD Spikers to back-to-back bronze medal finishes in their Premier Volleyball League campaign this 2022 season.
