Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 24) – Filipino race car driver Bianca Bustamante failed to score points in her third W Series race held over the weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.

Bustamante settled for a 15th place finish out of the 18 racers with a time of 33 minutes and 7.904 seconds.

The 17-year-old Filipina racing wunderkind started at the back row of the race after placing 17th in the qualifying session.

When the race lights went green, Bustamante managed to climb five spots from her starting position. But in the middle of the race, the W Series Academy Team driver ran wide into the gravel, affecting her pace and dropping her two places down.

Bustamante was able to manage her tires and speed inside the track in the succeeding laps to maintain her 15th place finish until the end of the race.

“I would have liked to score some points this weekend. I am definitely still learning about the car and I am just not one with the car yet, I haven’t found the limit,” said Bustamante. “I am pushing hard and confident we will get there.”

Bustamante was already familiar with the track as the 2022 W Series pre-season test was held in the same circuit, which is also the site of the Formula One Barcelona Grand Prix.

The young Filipino racing sensation will return in July in the fourth round of the 2022 W Series season at the iconic Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom.
