Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 18) – Johann Chua clinched the country’s second gold medal in billiards after he defeated compatriot Carlo Biado, 9-6, in the 31st Southeast Asian Games men’s 9-ball pool singles finals on Wednesday at the Ha Dong Gymnasium.

The two Filipino cue artists broke away from each other in the first four racks, but Chua established his first lead of the game at 3-2 in the fifth frame.

Biado continued to tie the game in the next racks at 5-5 until Chua notched the next three games with his brilliance in positioning the ball closer to the holes.

Biado won the 13th game and was ready to extend the match in the following rack. Chua missed the three-ball, which gave an opportunity for Biado to score on the next shots.

With two balls to go, Biado failed to convert the eighth ball and provided room for Chua to complete the last two shots and win the gold medal.

Biado and Chua will still vie for another medal finish in the men’s 10-ball pool singles.
