Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 18) – Filipino billiards legend Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco Dela Cruz bagged a bronze medal each in the men’s 1-cushion carom singles competition of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday at the Ha Dong Gymnasium in Vietnam.

Reyes and Dela Cruz duplicated their bronze medal finish three years ago in the 2019 Manila SEA Games.

The two decorated cue artists bowed to their respective Vietnamese rivals in the semifinals.

The 67-year-old Reyes lost to Nguyen Tran Than Tu, 55-100, but the hometown bet showed respect to the Filipino cue legend by taking a selfie with him after their match.

Dela Cruz was also beaten by Tuan Pham Quoc, 20-100, in the other semifinal pairing.

The Philippine billiards team so far pocketed two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.

Reyes will still compete in the men’s 3-cushion carom singles event.
