Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 6) — Former Jose Rizal University (JRU) basketball player John Amores has found support from none other than Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

"Remember the lesson, not the mistake. You have a friend from the Office of the Vice President," Amores quoted Duterte in a social media post that showed a photo of a letter from the OVP.

"It's my pleasure to receive this kind of gesture from our dearly VP Sara Duterte," he responded.

"Ipapa-frame ko 'to as a remembrance na sa dami ng bashers at negative critics, may isang tao na ipapaalala sa 'yo na mahalaga ka kahit 'di mo kaano ano," Amores added.

[Translation: I will have this framed as a remembrance that despite all the bashers and negative critics, there is someone who'll remind you that you are important no matter what.]

Amores was recently expelled from the JRU Heavy Bombers following his punching spree against the College of St. Benilde (CSB) Blazers last month.

Two CSB players have filed complaints against Amores, who has also been suspended from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

"I won't lose hope, somewhere in between in the darkest season of my life, there's still light," Amores said.
