Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 2) — The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles started their redemption bid in UAAP Season 85 with a 79-70 win over the Far Eastern University Tamaraws Sunday at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

Point guard Forthsky Padrigao tallied 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals for the Blue Eagles.

Ateneo was off to a blazing start, pushing the ball and building a 24-16 advantage at the end of the first period.

But in the second frame, the Blue Eagles managed to only score six points.

The Tamaraws, anchored by their stingy defense, went on a 16-0 run to grab the driver's seat, 36-30, going into the halftime break.

Searching for a spark in their stagnant offense, Dave Ildefonso and Padrigao provided the one-two punch for Ateneo as they retook lead, 55-50, at the conclusion of third quarter.

The Tamaraws tried to stay within striking distance in the final canto, but the Blue Eagles had enough firepower to hold off any FEU comeback to secure the victory.

Team captain BJ Andrade chipped in 15 points, while Ildefonso added 14 points for Ateneo.

LJay Gonzales paced the Tamaraws with 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists.

The Blue Eagles will next face the National University, while the Tamaraws tackle the University of the East. Both games are slated on Oct. 5 at the MOA Arena.
