Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 10) – Reigning national champion Edrian Celestino cemented his lead in the Philippine Skating Union's (PHSU) 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics qualifier evaluation after completing its second round.

The 23-year-old figure skater made the feat by clinching the Quebec Summer Championships title over the weekend.

Celestino scored a total of 191.80 points in the Quebec tilt. He received a score of 71.98 in the short program, the highest among the four skaters in the senior men's division, and second-best tally of 119.82 points in the free skate category.

The second round of the PHSU 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics qualifier evaluation requires skaters to join an in-person competition.

Celestino now leads the overall rankings in the two-round PHSU 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics qualifier evaluation, where the best ranked Filipino figure skater will be sent to the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy.

Last August 6, Celestino topped the first round of the PHSU 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics qualifier evaluation where he and two other prominent Filipino figure skaters performed their routine in a pre-recorded video. They were evaluated by international judges using the point-based system of the International Skating Union.

2019 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Christopher Caluza and two-time Winter Olympian Michael Martinez are the other Filipino figure skaters vying for a spot in the Olympic qualifying event. Both have yet to complete their second round in the national Olympic qualifier evaluation.

The top seven skaters in the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, scheduled on Sept. 22-25 in Oberstdorf, Germany, will advance to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

So far, the Philippines has an assured spot in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics after the International Ski Federation gave the country one quota slot in the men's alpine skiing event in a list released last February 8.
