Jaja Santiago makes history as Ageo Medics win Japan V Cup
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 28) - Volleyball player Jaja Santiago made history as the first Filipina to win a championship in an international league.
Santiago’s club team Ageo Medics won the Japan V Cup Division 1 championship on Sunday in a four-set match against the NEC Red Rockets, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17.
The 6-foot-5 middle blocker contributed 11 points, with nine attacks and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Mami Uchiseto and Yuka Sato led the team with 15 points each. Canadian player Shainah Joseph also contributed 14 points to the Ageo Medics.
Santiago joined the Ageo Medics in 2018. The team won the bronze medal last season.
The National University product was a three-time University Athletics Association of the Philippines Best Attacker from Season 77 to 79. She was also named the Most Valuable Player in Season 80.
