Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 10) - Alex Eala survived Laura Ioana Paar of Romania in extended sets as the Filipino tennis sensation opened her Trophee de la Ville tourney campaign Tuesday in Grenoble, France.

The 15-year-old Filipino bested the 32-year-old Romanian, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in a match that lasted for two hours and 18 minutes.

In the first set, Eala got her momentum late in the game as she scored consecutive points to seal the set in her favor.

The Filipino can close the second set with the victory, but the Romanian broke the 4-all scoreline to force a deciding third frame.

In the third set, both players tangled in a close fight until the ninth game when Eala double faulted Paar twice to record a 5-4 lead. Eala eventually sealed the victory in the tenth game.

Eala will face seventh seed Cristina Busca of Spain in the second round of the W25 tournament.

The competition is Eala's fourth straight pro tournament after competing in three legs of the International Tennis Federation Women's World Tennis Tour competition in Manacor, Spain, where she topped the first leg and finished in the quarterfinals in the last two legs.
