Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 19) - Gilas Pilipinas will play in a 'bubble' when the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers resume in November.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) ordered the November 2020 and February 2021 windows of the Continental Cups qualifiers, including Asia, to be played in a 'bubble' or an enclosed environment strictly for game venues and team members' lodging.

The world basketball governing body decided to do away with the traditional home-and-away format of the games for the health and safety of the players, coaches, and officials.

Authorities of the 'bubble' host city must comply with FIBA health protocols such as reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction testing and controlled entry in the secured area. The hosts will be decided at the regional level and will be announced in a later date.

FIBA explained that each 'bubble' will consist of four or eight teams in one or two qualification groups.

The 'bubble' format was first initiated by the National Basketball Association for the resumption of its 2019-20 season, where the teams played and billeted at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex inside the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
