Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 15) - The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League seeks to hold its own "bubble" to conclude its 2019-20 Lakan Cup.

League commissioner Kenneth Duremdes said only four teams will be isolated as the Manny Pacquiao-owned league only needs to finish the Lakan Cup division finals, postponed since December last year.

"More or less if we resume, the season will not take longer than one month including the preparations of the teams," explained Duremdes during the virtual Philippine Sportswriters' Association Forum on Tuesday.

The four teams that are still in the run for the Lakan Cup title are San Juan Knights and Makati Super Crunch for the northern division and Davao Occidental Tigers and Basilan Steel for the southern division.

Duremdes bared that San Juan Knights team owner and former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada offered his family's property in Tanay, Rizal as one of the possible "bubble" locations.

"It's fit for us because it has a gym and there are guest rooms fit for the four teams," the commissioner added.

Duremdes assured the league will observe the government-mandated health protocols for professional sports teams. They are also still waiting for the clearance of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases for the resumption of amateur sports, as some of the MPBL players are still playing with the collegiate leagues.

"What is important to us is the safety of the players. It is hard to gamble here because once you make a mistake, not only basketball is affected here," he said.
