Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 17) — Rhenz Abando will remain as a University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tiger.

This comes after reports that the prized recruit from La Union was being lured by other University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) schools, which led to his benching in UST's game versus University of the Philippines (UP) last Wednesday.

"Abando will stay in UST," Growling Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo told the Varsitarian, UST's official school publication.

Abando has turned a lot of heads after showcasing his talents on both ends of the floor. He averaged 11.8 points, five rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the 10 games he played for UST this season.

The 6-foot-2 cager has two more playing years in the UAAP after this season. He is a transferee from the Philippine College of Science and Technology in Pangasinan.

The Growling Tigers currently hold the third spot in the team standings with a 6-5 win-loss card, behind Ateneo de Manila University and UP.

UST will next tackle the National University Bulldogs on October 19 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
