(CNN Philippines, December 8) — Filipino William Morrison has set the new standard in the Southeast Asian Games.

Morrison registered 18.38 meters Sunday at the Athletics Stadium in New Clark City, eclipsing the 17.74 meters set by Thailand's Chatchawal Polyiam in the 2011 SEA Games.

Malaysia's Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli settled for second place with 17.03 meters, Thailand's Promrob Juntima secured the bronze with 16.40 meters.

Shot put is a track and field event where a heavy spherical object is thrown as far as possible.
