Albay braces for May 12 power interruption, suspends classes in affected areas
Bicol (CNN Philippines, May 11) — The provincial government of Albay has suspended classes in areas that will be affected by a 12-hour power interruption on Friday, May 12.
All classes in both public and private schools are suspended in Sto. Domingo, Bacacay, Malilipot, San Miguel Island in Tabaco, Legazpi City, Daraga, Camalig, Manito, Barangay Minto in Guinobatan, and Barangays Florista, Salvacion, San Isidro, and San Roque in Jovellar.
"This is to prevent heat-related incidents and/or medical conditions in view of [the power interruption]," the provincial government said.
The power outage begins at 6 a.m.
An advisory of local power distributor Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) cited the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines' statement that the power interruption is due to preventive and corrective maintenance along the line.
ALECO will also be conducting the parallel activity of massive line clearing, hot spot correction, and feeder tagging.
Power interruption and low voltage are almost a daily experience of residents in Albay amid the high heat index.
On Wednesday, the national weather bureau said the heat index in Legazpi City in Albay hit 43 degrees at 1 p.m., with the same temperature expected on Friday.
