4 killed, 4 injured in tricycle-van crash in Quezon province
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 15) – Four people, including a five-year-old girl, died and four others were injured after a tricycle and a van collided along Maharlika Highway in Pagbilao town in Quezon province, authorities reported Wednesday.
According to the Quezon Province Police, a tricycle with five passengers and driven by Marvin Lopez slammed into an Isuzu Elf Van driven by Rafael Jovinal Jr. along the curved section of the highway in Barangay Ikirin around 9 a.m.
The police reported that based on the CCTV footage, Lopez’s tricycle “partially occupied the left lane,” resulting in a collision with the van. It consequently collided with another tricycle driven by Allan Jay Rey which was behind the van.
The victims were rushed to the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City.
Four of Lopez's passengers were declared dead on arrival. The police identified the fatalities as Teodoro Balitaan, Justina Balitaan, Maryrose Ravano, and five-year-old Princes Lara Lopez.
The tricycle drivers and passengers Nilda Peñarubia and Marilyn Lopez were injured.
