Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 24) — Iloilo City logged its first case of the African swine fever (ASF), Mayor Jerry Treñas confirmed Thursday.

The mayor said one of 17 samples turned out positive for ASF. The case was recorded from Zone 5 of Barangay Tacas.

“Within 500-meter radius, all pigs will be slaughtered and buried as per Department of Agriculture while we will be providing financial assistance to those affected,” said Treñas.

“We continue to disinfect our slaughterhouse and we are strict in our markets to make sure that meats coming from areas with ASF cases will not be accepted," he also said.

"We will continue to make sure that we stay alert during this time and make sure to follow the Department of Agriculture protocols,” Treñas added.

Other towns in Iloilo province also previously reported ASF cases.
