Village councilor shot dead in Calbayog City

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 13) — A village councilor was shot dead by four motorcycle-riding gunmen in Calbayog City, Samar, Thursday.

The victim was identified by the police as Simeon Tarrayo, 51, a member of Barangay Carmen village council.

According to police report, Tarrayo was on board his Honda XRM motorcycle along Barangay Dagum at around 4:56 p.m. when the four suspects riding two motorcycles shot him on different parts of his body.

He was able to fire back at one of the suspects, who sustained two gunshot wounds on his chest while trying to escape.

Tarrayo was immediately brought to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

It was the second attempt at his life after surviving an ambush in 2016.

Police have yet to identify suspects and the motive for the attack.
