Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 2) — A human rights investigator of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) was killed in Cotabato City on Wednesday.

A report from the Cotabato City Police Office said Archad Rangan Ayao and a habal-habal driver named Pio Golen Orteza were killed after unidentified suspects shot them around 6:10 p.m. on Labor Day.

The incident happened along Don Ramon Rabago Street in Barangay Rosary Heights 4.

The police report said Ayao was on board Orteza's habal-habal when they were shot. Both were brought to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered two cartridge casings from a .45 calibre pistol.

Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine the identities of the suspects as well as the motive of the crime.

Bangsamoro Parliament MP Laisa Alamia posted a photo of Ayao on her social media page, calling him a "committed human rights and social worker."

Ayaw was also a former reporter of ABS-CBN Cotabato.

"His life has been snuffed out earlier tonight. Unbelievable! Another senseless death! I grieve, I grieve, I grieve," Alamia said in her post.
