Sorsogon (CNN Philippines, October 31)— Sorsogon has set a new Guinness record for the largest Filipino folk dance presentation in a single venue.

The Sorsogon Provincial Information Office said a total of 7,127 people jammed the streets of Sorsogon City on Thursday and danced to ‘Pantomina sa Tinampo”, a folk dance mimicking the “courtship” of doves.

The event, led by Governor Chiz Escudero and his wife, actress Heart Evangelista, witnessed thousands of participants in their kimono costumes and abaca slippers joining the parade.

Performers of the “Pantomina sa Tinampo”—a culmination of the month-long Kasanggayahan Festival— are usually clad in colorful barongs and Filipiñana outfits. The folk dance has become an important part of the area’s festivities through the years.

This is the first time the province hit a world record on Guinness for this category, according to the Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Office.

CNN Philippines' Stringer Rosas Olarte contributed to this report.
