5.1 earthquake jolts Sarangani Island

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 8) – An earthquake shook the municipality of Sarangani early Friday morning, according to the state seismologists.

In an advisory, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor struck the island at 3:20 a.m.

It was spotted 280 kilometers southeast of the island with a depth of 149 kilometers.

Phivolcs earlier reported the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 but downgraded it later. It also warned that aftershocks are expected.

Earthquake Intensity 1 was also recorded in Malungon, Sarangani, Phivolcs added.
