More than 27,000 barangays with unopposed bets in Oct. 30 polls
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 22) — A total of 27,514 barangays have unopposed candidates for several posts in the Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
As of Sept. 21, data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed 7,226 barangays with unopposed bets in the race for barangay captain.
Meanwhile, 1,611 barangays nationwide have candidates running unopposed for a seat in the Sangguniang Kabataan.
Comelec data also showed 8,057 barangays have candidates who are unchallenged for SK chairperson.
It added that candidates from 10,620 barangays will also have a solo fight for SK membership.
For the four BSKE positions to be voted by the public, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has the most number of barangays with unopposed candidates: 1,200 for barangay captain; 1,021, for Sangguniang Barangay member; 8,057 for SK chairman; and 1,714 for SK member.
No candidates
On the other hand, there are 675 barangays which have no candidates running as barangay captain, SK chairperson, and SK member.
Of the eight barangays with no bets for the barangay captain post, six are in BARMM; and one each in Central Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.
Meanwhile, there are 124 barangays without candidates running for SK chairperson. Most of which are in BARMM as well, with 31 barangays.
Data also show 543 barangays with no bets for SK membership. The Bangasamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has the most number of barangays without SK member candidates at 192, followed by Cordillera Administrative Region with 156 barangays.
However, Comelec noted that the figures may change "due to ongoing updates from the field offices, as a result of candidate's withdrawals and correction of entries."
