BuCor chief relieves acting Davao prison superintendent
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 19) — Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. relieved the acting superintendent of the Davao Prison and Penal Farm from his post after his failure to immediately report the escape and rearrest of an inmate, BuCor announced on Tuesday.
C/Supt. Rufino Martin reported to the head office only on Sept. 19 about the escape of inmate Jundee Caño from the minimum-security compound on Sept. 13, the bureau said in a statement. Caño was rearrested on Sept. 17.
"Untoward incident like this should be reported immediately to the head office and we will not tolerate any delays or withholding of very important information," Catapang said.
Based on Martin's report, Cano was rearrested in a hot pursuit with the help of the members of Damulog Municipal Police Station.
“If there are any untoward incidents in various colonies, I don’t want to be the last to know, so this will serve as a warning to all BuCor officials,” Catapang added.
