Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 30) — The chief of Mandaluyong City police has been relieved from his post after testing positive in a random drug test, Eastern Police District Director BGen. Wilson Asueta confirmed on Wednesday.

In a text message to CNN Philippines, Asueta said Mandaluyong City police chief PCol Cesar Gerente is subjected to administrative charges.

“He is given 15 days to challenge the drug test result,” Asueta said.

The random drug test was conducted by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in an effort to cleanse Metro Manila from unscrupulous police personnel.

“I will not tolerate scalawags in NCRPO especially those who are involved in illegal drug activities, sinisiguro kong may kalalagyan kayo [you will be put in your place],” NCRPO acting regional director Jose Melencio Nartatez said.

“Patuloy ang NCRPO sa paglilinis sa aming hanay para sa tapat at marangal na serbisyong publiko,” Nartatez added.

[Translation: The NCRPO continues to purge its ranks for honest and honorable public service.]

Meanwhile, PCol. Mary Grace Madayag has been appointed as acting chief of Mandaluyong City police.
