Ex-broadcaster Jay Sonza released on bail
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 22) — Former broadcaster Jay Sonza has been released from detention after posting bail for various charges filed against him, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera told the media that Sonza was released from his detention facility in Quezon City Jail at 8:57 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to Bustinera, the TV personality posted bail for 11 counts of estafa pending before QC Regional Trial Court Branch 100. The BJMP received the release order at 6 p.m.
The BJMP official said 67-year-old Sonza also posted bail for his libel case pending before QC RTC 77.
Meanwhile, his two other cases on syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment and another illegal recruitment case were already dismissed.
Upon verification, Bustinera said the BJMP found no other pending cases against Sonza.
Sonza, a radio and television broadcaster since the 1980s, was on his way to Hong Kong last August 18 when immigration officials detained him due to pending criminal charges.
