DBM approves release of ₱15B for construction of nearly 5,000 classrooms
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17) — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of funds totaling ₱15 billion to finance the construction of nearly 5,000 classrooms nationwide.
In a statement on Wednesday, the DBM said the construction works in the education sector cover a total of 1,194 sites across the country.
It includes the construction, replacement and completion of kindergarten, elementary and secondary school buildings and technical vocational laboratories; the installation or replacement of disability access facilities; the construction of water and sanitation facilities; and site improvement.
“We need to build and repair classrooms to keep up with increasing enrollment in our public schools,” Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier said the administration would focus on the construction of new classrooms as in-person classes have resumed.
