OCTA: Metro Manila COVID-19 cases may peak within 1-2 weeks
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 10) — The rate of people testing positive for COVID-19 in Metro Manila has risen once again, according to a member of the OCTA Research group.
In a social media post on Wednesday, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said the positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) climbed to 24.2% as of May 9 — higher than the 19.7% recorded on May 2.
"Exceeding 25% is almost given at this time," David said, as he estimated that the number of new cases will peak within one to two weeks.
David told CNN Philippines last week that Metro Manila's positivity rate could reach the Delta wave level this week.
He noted that OCTA recorded a 25% positivity rate in NCR back in 2021 during the Delta wave. The region's highest positivity rate was at over 50% during the first Omicron wave in January last year.
The World Health Organization has said COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency.
