Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 6) -- Quezon Representative Mark Enverga has been designated as the caretaker of Valenzuela’s first district following the appointment of Rex Gatchalian as Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

During Monday’s session, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe moved for Gatchalian’s name to be dropped from the House’s roll of members. He said Gatchalian had written to the House leadership tendering his resignation as congressman due to his Cabinet appointment.

"We are in receipt of a letter dated Feb. 1, 2023 from Rep. Rex Gatchalian of the first district of Valenzuela City informing the Speaker of the House of his resignation as member of the House of Representatives and as chairperson of the Committee on Local Government in view of his appointment as Secretary of Social Welfare and Development," said Dalipe before moving to accept Gatchalian's resignation.

Dalipe subsequently made a motion for Enverga to become the caretaker of Gatchalian’s district.

Gatchalian and Enverga are both members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
