Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 25) — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. approved the suspension of classes in public schools and work in government on Monday, Sept. 26, in areas affected by Super Typhoon Karding.

In a social media post, Marcos said he received and approved the recommendation made by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

“The Palace will issue a memorandum circular stating the same before the end of the day,” he added.

Based on the letter, the suspension covers the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol.

Suspension of work and classes in the private sector is left to the discretion of their respective heads, NDRRMC noted.

Earlier, the following local government units have suspended classes for Monday due to Karding.More local government units have suspended classes for Monday, Sept. 26, due to Super Typhoon Karding.

Karding became a super typhoon early Sunday. It is expected to make landfall in the northern portion of Quezon or the southern portion of Aurora in the evening, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

PAGASA added it could also hit lands of Polillo Islands, now placed under Signal No. 5, this afternoon.
