Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 16)— The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday announced it has approved the fare hike for several modes of public transport including jeepneys, buses, and Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS).

In an advisory, the LTFRB said officials greenlighted the ₱1 provisional increase for both traditional and modern Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) for the first four kilometers.

This brings the minimum fare for the PUJs to ₱12 and ₱14, respectively.

The LTFRB also approved a ₱2 uniformed base fare increase for city and provincial buses for the first five kilometers.

The price hike for the succeeding kilometers will range from ₱0.35 to ₱0.50 — depending on the type of bus.

Meanwhile, the flag down rate for taxis and TNVS will go up by ₱5.

"The minimum fare for Taxis and Sedan-type TNVS will be ₱45, while AUV/SUV-type TNVS will be at ₱55. For hatchback-type TNVS, flagdown rate will be ₱35. There will be no increase in the succeeding kilometers," read the LTFRB statement.

Several transport groups have repeatedly appealed for higher fares amid rising fuel prices in the past months.

The LTFRB said the new rates will be effective by the first week of October.
