Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 8) – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) decided on Monday to maintain the implementation of Alert Level 1 in Israel after hostilities ceased between Israeli and Palestinian forces in the Gaza Strip.

No Filipino in Israel was harmed during the conflict, the DFA reported.

The DFA also reminded Filipinos in Israel and Gaza to stay inside their residences and avoid public areas.

“The DFA welcomes the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and hopes that the ceasefire holds. We call on parties to exercise restraint and to respect the terms of the ceasefire,” the DFA said in a statement.

According to the DFA guide for Filipino travellers and overseas workers, Alert Level 1 is a precautionary phase, issued when there are signs of internal disturbance, instability, and/or external threat to the host country.

The Philippine Embassy in Israel also assured that Filipinos in the Middle East country are safe.

A ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad has been reached on Monday, after at least 44 civilians and militants were killed in the conflict, according to Palestinian officials.
