Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 24) – All classes in public schools in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan remain suspended on Wednesday, Aug. 24, due to Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

Work in government offices in those areas are also suspended following the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

In a statement on Tuesday, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said the presidential announcement came following the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as Florita's heavy rains posed possible risks to the public.

Angeles said the same course of action is left to the discretion of the heads of private schools and offices. But the recommendation is for them to also suspend work and classes, she added.
