Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 18) — Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva said Thursday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

He is the fifth senator to catch the virus this month.

On Wednesday, Senate President Migz Zubiri said Senator Grace Poe also contracted the virus.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has recovered, while Senators Imee Marcos and Cynthia Villar have been attending sessions virtually.

Starting last Monday, the Senate has implemented stricter health protocols, including a three-week "lockdown for guests" following the rise in COVID cases.
