Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 17) - With face-to-face classes resuming next week, the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday allowed the reopening of more than 100 pre-pandemic routes for non-EDSA city buses, jeepneys, and UV Express units.

In a memorandum circular, the LTFRB said it will open 33 non-EDSA bus routes in Metro Manila and nearby provinces--including Bulacan, Laguna, and Cavite--to accommodate the expected influx of commuters.

Another memorandum circular stated that 68 pre-pandemic routes for jeepneys and 32 for UV Express will open in the National Capital Region.

The LTFRB said bus operators can start applying for special permits on Thursday.

The agency also said additional routes may be opened as its route rationalization study progresses. It added that the number of units may also be modified depending on passenger demand.
